The history of the hotel
When teenager Inger Marie Andersen was going home from America to visit her mother in the early 1900s, the journey was long and the return ticket was never used. When she arrived at Kvinabrygga by boat, a handsome bachelor was ready with a horse and carriage. It was Gabriel Emanuel Egeland, ten years older. That day changed both of their lives. The return ticket was exchanged for marriage and the birth of 13 children.
A love story with an American twist
Inger Marie Andersen was one of many who traveled from Kvinesdal to America in the 19th century. What was supposed to be a short visit home became a long love story and the beginning of Utsikten's history.
Inger Marie and Emanuel are the first chapter in Utsikten's history. The house was designed by Emanuel and opened on June 20, 1932. At the time, it was a guesthouse and cafe. Utsikten was run and developed through generations. In the 1960s, the building was a motel, the inspiration was from America. Welcome to Utsikten Hotell Kvinesdal. A new, exciting chapter in our history is underway.
